Animal Crossing: City Folk - Wii - Review

Post by pichu on Sun Nov 23, 2008 7:20 am

Today we will be looking at how great and the wonders of Animal Crossing and I take you in depth of the game. Please comment it, took me an hour to write this Razz

INTRO

Ever been down in the dumps or have a job as one? Or You just might be having a bad day at some other place and you just want to relax. well If you are starting your hate your life for some reason then jump into Animal Crossing and explore about having a new life and living with the animals.

Now If you haven't played Animal Crossing before, then it's all right, you don't need the previous installments to be successful in this game. You start by talking to a cat name rover and having a little chit chat on how you will look like on how you respond to the questions that rover asks you. Then He will ask you what town are you moving in and there is where you name your town but be careful on what you name your town, You will never be able to edit it and change it after that. After all that talk with Rover you finally land on the town that you destined to and start a new life.

You begin the town by choosing a house that you like. all 4 houses look the same but they are all in a different location like for example there is one next to the beach and there is another one next to the museum or one inland away from the beach or the one near the border for easy access to other players you can visit to. Then soon after the house choosing you will have to pay your loan. since Nook is cheap and the biggest antogonist in gaming history, you will have to work for that Punk by sending items to animals, or plant flowers / trees around his facilities. After all that hard labor you are finally free but you will still have to pay the loan that Nook has charged you and the game has officially started!

Gameplay and the village / summary

MONEY MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND is The Key for surviving pretty much where ever you are is by obtaining a large amount of money. well in this game that applies as well. The currency of the game is bells and you will have to collect a lot of it by fishing and bug catching. you can also look for fruits that are tangled on the trees or seashells by the sea shore and collect money off of them as well but they come nowhere near as valuable as some fish and bugs.

There are many fish and bugs in the game to collect, each fish or bug can vary in apperance from daytime to nighttime or being only obtained in the summer or in the winter. and each critter has a diffferent value when you sell them to the shop. The more rarer the fish is the more Valuable it is to collect them bells. After you have payed your first loan then you will be asked if you want to expand your house, of course since Nook is cheap he will never take a no and expand it anyways. Not only that but the expanded house has a even bigger loan to pay. your house expands up to a monstrous mansion sized house with a monstrous Loan being charged to it.

Paying your loan isn't the only thing that the game has you for spending bells on. The game also offers you furiniture, shirts, Stationary ( to write letters to the animals ) to collect. Furniture can also vary in prices based on how rare they are and the same with other stuff. you can place furniture in your house in any way you want on the floor. There are sets of furniture for you to find as well if you want to collect a set. These Furniture can be bought by the Shop that Nook owns or the City.

Your village also features a Design shop for you to design any patterns you want. you can wear your desings as a shirt, or make it into a carpet or wall paper for your house or even use it as your town's flag. The Museum is also in your village. when you first visit the museum you find it empty but that's not a problem as you will be able to fill it up with Fishes, bugs, Dinosaur bones ( Fossils of bones can be found in the grounds of your village and be sold at a high price as well ) and paintings. If you happened to fill the museum with all the fishes/bugs/ dinosaur bones/ paintings that it requires then I give an applaud to you as even I haven't been able to fill the place up.

There are also events and holidays to celebrate in the town as days go on. you have flea markets that come almost every month where you can sell your used and unwanted furniture to animals for a profit or vice versa to Halloween where the village goes candy hungry and you are suppose to find a pumpkin animal to collect a set of furniture. The events and holiday can be exciting. You can also have rainy days to snow days and your town can be a winter wonderland in the winter ro a green flower spring.

THE CITY IS AN expansion of the game. In the city you can have many shops. You have Gracie's Grace a furniture shop that sells exclusive rare items but at a very very high costs. or see a show in the theather. There are many things to do in the city but visiting there as soon as you started the game is a bad idea as city is for those that can actually afford the things that it offers *sigh* it sucks being poor.

Offers

MULTIPLAYER is also offered in the game. It's not that huge but it's Great that it has it. you visit your friend's town and chat with them using the wii speak. I have tried the wii speak and it works really great. It's a bit slow but it still it works perfectly in the game

The CONTROLS of the game may be confusing at first but you adapt to them soon enough. you have the option between the nunchuck with the wii mote and the wii mote it self. with the wii mote/ nunchuck you move your character with the Control stick and point the screen when it's necessary to like choosing an item. The Wiimote itself it turns to a point and click game where you click a direction and your character follows it.

The MUSIC of the game is kinda catchy and it's great with a different tune to hum to every hour of the day like having happy peppy music in the afternoon to a sleepy confortable tune in the night.
you also have the option to edit your town's tune to anything you want and you will hear it as the bells toll every hour on the hour.

REPLAY VALUE is high.. very high. You can spend on this game for a few years if you intended to. There are events and other happenings in the game to keep you busy for months or months or even years.

Conclusion, There is the review of the game. That ought to explain a small percentage of the game. The game offers many many more things for you to do. The graphics looks like a polished version of the gamecube version and has many aspects that wild world had. It may be surprising how wild world ( DS ) and City folks has many many similarities. but that's ok as it is still the same animal crossing that we know and love. it's a very fun second life if you just want to enjoy a relaxing after noon trying to catch a sea bass or see the fireworks or maybe even hear KK the dog sing his heart out to his music in the cafe.

Your House expands, The Village expands by more animals moving to town, the shop expands from a small shop to a Huge corporate-like business as time and time as time and time... and time moves on and soon one day you will could live like bill gates as you are the most successful villager in the game!

Game gets a 8.5 / 10

I'm having a great time playing this game again with my girlfriend. I was a bit concerned since the graphics haven't been updated and the game pretty much feels the same as the Gamecube version...but my fears were unfounded.

We're having just as much fun (if not more) this time around as we did the last three years ago. We've even added our roommate which makes it that much more fun and competitive.

Nice review Pichu...now maybe we can exchange some codes sometime.

Excellent review pichu. So you mentioned that the Wii Speak is slow. Do you mean that their is a delay from when you speak to when someone hears it? Also, is the sound quality good? Basically I want a Wii Speak review.

It's a teeny bit static y and yeah it does delay. I tried it once with a phone to see which would receive the sound more quicker and the phone won and the sound shortly came after in the speak. The sound comes out of the TV speakers and with that happening you would hear an echo of what you said due to that. once in a while you would have to adjust it when you hear a pitch coming out but it's easy to fix. It's still good though if you want to use the speak to have a conversation via the wii. it's just not as good as having the phone on speaker.

Grammar errors are bad!

I didn't even proof read it twice... so it would be an embarrassment to post this on VGC.
