Mechs, will they ever become a reality ?
Me and braw where discussing this... he thinks its possible... I say even if someone ever solved the incredible power issues it would never be logical military unit... to heavy... making it to slow... and an easy target... and even if it was somewhat fast it would be a to big investment only to get shot down by a regular missile... also powering legs may look cool but they are a lousy alternative to flying or tracked vehicles... so I think even if it was possible it would not be a good idea and get pwned by other military units...
Opinions ???

Sadly I agree with dude, MEchs are not possible ot better stated not practical.
Not even alien technology has any kind of mechs.

I still think it possible if somehow like u said fix the power issue and make the mobility better . Or maybe i been watching too much mech animes ..... could be the terminator salvation movie coming up too. Technology only advancing further anything can happen .....maybe not to the level of gundams ,but i can see mechs with tank guns and shit able to move faster more useful too.

^^ That think proves my point better then yours IMO... its incredibly clumsy... even if the mobility was vastly improved (and I mean by a hole lot) the legs remain a to big weak point... even an relatively weak hit to the legs would drop any mech to the ground and it would be game over...
Don found this answer on youtube that makes some good points too:
"it would be horrible in war, it cannot move on any type of terrain except flat concrete. it's way too high and vulnerable and has no room for any descent weapons and loading of said weapons. A humvee could run into it and knock it over, Walkers are really very impractical. Cool looking but horribly impractical unfortunately"
Still a cool vid and a interesting idea in general...

In the future, I don't see why not.
I just don't see the point of having one. lol

I assume this is the definition we are going with.
I think you could argue for six legged remote controlled vehicles, you see a lot of prototypes like this for the military. The idea being they could climb mountainess terain like afganistan and enter cave without risking human (well allie) lives.
As for the anime version no. Not in a million years. Todays world is about percision weapons, and accomplishing an objective with as few civilian casualities as possible and minimum damage to civilian structures. Nothing about a mecha is percise.
Seriously what would a mecha be able to do that couldn't be done easier some other way.
As for a machine army, well that will happen but its not going to be like it is in the movies. We are much more likely to make them look like rocks or cats or trees then humanoid. And there won't be massive marching armies of machines, and I don't think we have to worry about AI for a very long time. Like solders we want these machine to do what they are told. But at the end of the day we will use humans for door to door fighting just heavily aided by machines.
Remember humanoid robots only serve 2 purposes, giving us a flase sense of connection and sex dolls. I think biotech may be different but for machines humanoid is horribly ineffecient.
Mecha, also known as meka or mechs, are walking vehicles controlled by a pilot, often appearing in science fiction or other genres involving a fantastic or futuristic element. Mecha are generally, though not necessarily, bipedal, with arms, hands, and fingers capable of grasping objects.

Re: Mechs, will they ever become a reality ?
^^ I think the 3rd and most important reason for humanoid robots is that we have shaped our environment to fit us... so if we make robots that are like us they are automatically equip for our environment and can do the same or similar things we do...
another reason is that men suffer from the physiological handicap not to be able to give live, this gives them a psychological trauma that creates the urge to create things in which we will live on... and just as we once proclaimed god had made us in his image we now create things in our image... and as our blind drive for perfection leads the way we try to create something that is bigger, stronger and smarter then even we are...

Japan is a building a life size Gundam replica but I dunno if it was just replica or somewhat functional. It also cost a shitload.
If they ever solved the issues with mechs than yea and if they were like Knightmare Frames theyd own any ground weapons and possibly some jets.
After all Knightmare frames can fly.

@Dude thats true didn't think about that.
You know when it comes to humanoid robotic technology some of the most advanced stuff is actually in japanese sex dolls. Or so says my reobotics engineer friend.

^^ The biggest advancements on the internet where also made so people could have faster, better access to porn... so basically the two things that advance human technology the most are the military and the sex industry... GO PRIMITIVE MALE THINKING !!!

Egh, I wish. I'm a huge fan of mechs, if a military had some of these babies in service I'd try and join these corps in no time.
Armored Core in reality is quite the dream.
