New Chat "Bob-omb to Jappix"

Hello friends! The admin crew have been at work on the chat once again. We looked at several options, but in the end we opted to switch protocols. We decided to use the XMPP(Jabber) protocol and Jappix webchat.

Jappix a great little webchat. It is still in development, but is stable and will be getting new features. You will need to register, but that is simple and most nicks should not be taken as this is a small network.

We will be moving to the new chat soon, perhaps in the next few days (by Friday?). It will replace the current webchat on the hotpage. It will be able to be used in a popup window or a newtab/window as well.

Is it really necessary to move? Whats wrong with bobomb?

Luin originally wanted to change straight from Freenode to Jabber but it really wasn't ready then. Now that it is a little better the admins decided to change to it

...I'm with Sonix. Why the moves? If it sends and receives, why would you want anything else?

Is it down for anyone else or is it just my school that is blocking it...?

nope, it is working in pidgin and jappix for me. I don't know if they are port blocking or what, the port is 5222 I don't know if there is a way around that...

For those that use it, you have probably noticed Jappix is down for the moment... here is the acknowledgment.

!jappix www node down, we contacted the guy who hosts it, he has a migration problem with Apache, wait and see :S

Eventually we will host our own Jappix server, and not be tied to it directly.
